BEAR LAKE COUNTY, Idaho — Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a fatal accident west of Montpelier. The two-vehicle crash was reported Saturday, July 27, around 8:45 a.m.

According to the Idaho State Police a 20-year-old woman from Blackfoot, Idaho, was driving a Chevy Spark southbound on US-89. Near milepost 24.5, the vehicle collided with a GMC Terrain that was going northbound.  

The driver of the Chevy was wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the GMC, a 35-year-old woman from Ovid, Idaho, was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital.

The identities of both women were not released, pending notification of family.

Police did not report which vehicle caused the crash.

Both lanes of US-89 were blocked for approximately four hours.

Idaho State Police were assisted by Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Bear Lake County Ambulance, Bear Lake County Fire Department, Montpelier Police Department, and The Idaho Department of Transportation.
