LOGAN, Utah — A 34-year-old Logan man was arrested Saturday night after he was pulled over by law enforcement in a truck that had just been stolen while its owner was mowing a nearby lawn.
Marcus Allen Taylor was taken into custody on May 9 and booked into the Cache County Jail. According to an affidavit of probable cause, Taylor was booked on suspicion of second-degree felony theft of an operable vehicle, as well as a Class C misdemeanor charge for driving on a suspended or revoked license.
The swift arrest occurred after the truck’s owner parked the vehicle at an address near 775 S. US-89/91 in Logan to mow a lawn. Approximately 15 minutes after parking, the owner looked over and noticed the truck was no longer there. Following the incident, the owner filled out a stolen vehicle affidavit to attest that Taylor did not have permission to be inside the vehicle.
Around the same time, a deputy with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of 1700 S. US-89/91. Upon making contact, the deputy found Taylor was the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle. Authorities quickly determined during the stop that Taylor was operating the vehicle with a suspended license.
While Taylor was stopped, law enforcement learned the vehicle he was driving was the exact same truck that had just been reported stolen out of Logan.
Taylor made an initial appearance Monday afternoon in Logan’s 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from the Cache County Jail. He was ordered to be held without bail, assigned a public defender and ordered to appear again in court May 26.
According to court records, Taylor was arrested in 2024 for possession or use of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay a $690 fine.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
