James Mather will replace Principal Daryl Guymon on July 1. Guymon, who is retiring, has been with the Logan City School District for 30 years.

The Logan City School District Administration and School Board picked Mather after his time serving as assistant principal at Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Texas.

“As we wish Principal Guymon well on his upcoming retirement, I am excited to welcome Mr. Mather to TEAM Logan! His skills as a leader, and his background as a teacher and coach will all contribute to the ongoing success of our students and staff at Logan High”, said Logan City School District (LCSD) Superintendent Frank Schofield. “As I visited with his current colleagues, they consistently referenced his commitment to student wellbeing and his efforts to identify the support that teachers and students need to promote the school’s growth and success. I am excited to see Logan High’s continued progress with him as the principal.”

Mather was instrumental in building relationships within the school community and making operations more efficient, according to a news release from LCSD. He has a background in business and marketing education, as well as coaching.

“I am thrilled to be joining Logan High School,” Mather said. “I can’t wait to meet and start working with all of the students, teachers, parents, and everybody else that is a part of #teamlogan!

“I’m also humbled to be joining a school that has such a long and rich history of excellence and achievement and will do my best to help every child be prepared to be successful in their post secondary pursuits. Go Grizzlies!”

Mather holds a Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University.

LCSD says his experience in relationship-building and efficiency will be integral to the school’s mission of academic excellence and community involvement.

A welcome meet and greet will be announced at a later date by the school district.
