LOGAN — Local school officials have let parents know that classes at Mount Logan Middle School will be held Friday, Sept. 13 after rumors had circulated about a student bringing a gun to school.
In a letter to parents Thursday night, Logan City School District Superintendent Frank Schofield said Mount Logan Middle School staff had become aware of reports that a former student who now lives in the Salt Lake valley said he was going to bring a gun to his school. Because the student used to live in Logan some people had thought he was referring to Mount Logan Middle School.
The teachers reported the information to school administrators, who immediately shared the information with local law enforcement. As the Salt Lake and Logan police investigated, they clarified that the threats in question did not appear to refer to Mount Logan Middle School but to a school in the Salt Lake valley.
Schofield said the school district appreciated the students who shared their concerns with teachers, and the staff who promptly notified Principal Spencer Holmgren, so the school could coordinate with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of the students at Mount Logan Middle School.
Classes at all Logan City schools are operating on normal schedules.
Schofield stressed that the threats in question were not targeted at Mount Logan Middle School, nor any of the students there.
“We are grateful for the partnership we have with the Logan City Police Department, and for their help in ensuring a safe school environment at MLMS,” concluded Schofield.
