SMITHFIELD – Christmas might seem to be months away.

And it is. After all, don’t we still have Halloween and Thanksgiving to celebrate before that?

But the Four Seasons Theatre Company here is already thinking way ahead.

The Smithfield troupe has slated auditions for its traditional holiday production of A Christmas Carol for Tuesday, Sept. 24 and Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Back in the good old days, the Four Seasons company performed this stage adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic every year at Christmastime. More recently, A Christmas Carol has been performed in a holiday rotation on alternate years with more modern shows like Elf and A Christmas Story.

This year, however, it’s time to revive “the big one” and the Four Seasons production team is looking for a huge cast of talented performers of all ages – and holiday spirit levels.

“Is your inner Scrooge ready to shine?” they asked in a Sept. 13 post on Facebook.

“Or maybe you’re more of a Tiny Tim? Either way, Four Seasons Theatre Company is looking for you to join our cast of A Christmas Carol!“

By counting on my fingers and toes, I think that this will be the eighth or ninth production of A Christmas Carol by the Four Seasons company in the past couple of decades.

As usual, the troupe will perform the stage version of A Christmas Carol with music by Disney composer Alan Menken and Lyric by Lynn Ahrens. That show debuted at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1994 and continued to be performed annually until 2003.

Here in Cache Valley, that show is slated to be performed from Thursday, Dec. 5 to Saturday, Dec. 14 at Sky View High School in Smithfield.

The auditions for A Christmas Carol will be held at Cedar Ridge Elementary School in Hyde Park.

Specific information about the audition process and a sign-up list will be available on Monday, Sept. 16.

“Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the stage,” the show organizers say, “don’t miss your chance to bring this timeless classic to life with us!”

Cedar Ridge Elementary School is located at 65 North, 200 West in Hyde Park.
