LOGAN — Logan City Light & Power and Brigham City Public Power have earned national recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for delivering exceptional electric reliability in 2024.
The APPA, which represents more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities across the country, awarded the distinction based on performance data submitted through its eReliability Tracker service. The data, which measures outage frequency and duration, is benchmarked against national statistics from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
“These utilities are truly elite when it comes to keeping the lights on,” said Paul Zummo, APPA’s director of research and development. “Year after year, public power utilities demonstrate that they provide highly reliable service. Their communities should be proud.”
Logan City Light & Power has now received this recognition six times—previously honored in 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023. Power Director Mark Montgomery credited the local team’s dedication and long-term planning.
“Reliable power is the foundation of a thriving community—it fuels our economy, supports essential services, and enhances quality of life,” Montgomery said in a release. “We’re not only focused on meeting today’s needs but also preparing for future generations.”
Brigham City Public Power was also recognized for its outstanding reliability. As a member of the Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS), Brigham City has prioritized rapid response to outages, proactive maintenance, and investment in infrastructure. Local management and knowledge of the system play a key role in minimizing service disruptions.
The 2024 APPA award recipients from Utah include Logan City, Brigham City, Hurricane City, and Mt. Pleasant City. All four are UAMPS members.
