BOX ELDER COUNTY — Firefighters are battling another wildfire in northern Utah. The Little Pole Fire is burning northeast of Lynn, after being sparked by a lightning strike. The fire, which was first reported Thursday, has grown to 487 acres and is 10 percent contained.
Utah Fire Info reports the blaze began on Bureau of Land Management land before spreading to U.S. Forest Service and private property. A structure that was initially threatened by the fire is now considered safe.
Both air and ground crews have responded and will remain on the scene working containment lines.
The Little Pole Fire is one of 695 wildfires to start in Utah this year, which have burned over 126,000 acres. The active fire season prompted Governor Spencer Cox to declare a 30-day state of emergency Thursday, freeing up additional state resources to assist with firefighting efforts.
