LOGAN — A 43-year-old Lehi man has been sentenced to jail and probation for selling a stolen trailer with an altered vehicle identification number to a Cache Valley buyer.

Wade Lamar Peacock was ordered to serve 65 days in jail and 36 months of probation, and to pay $4,200 in restitution.

According to court records, Peacock was sentenced Oct. 14 in 1st District Court in Logan. He previously pleaded guilty to receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony, and an amended third-degree felony count of altering a vehicle identification number.

The investigation began in March after a Hyrum resident contacted the Cache County Sheriff’s Office for a VIN inspection on a trailer purchased for about $4,000. Deputies discovered the primary VIN plate had been scraped off and altered. Using a secondary VIN provided by the manufacturer, investigators confirmed the trailer had been reported stolen from West Jordan.

Deputies traced the phone number used in sales-related text messages to Peacock, who was already under supervision with state Adult Probation and Parole. The buyer later identified Peacock in a photo lineup, and investigators said Peacock admitted to selling the trailer.

According to Utah County court records, Peacock was previously arrested last year after forging a divorce certificate to marry another woman while avoiding child support payments to his first wife. Investigators uncovered the scheme after an ecclesiastical leader presented the fake decree to Peacock’s estranged wife. He was convicted of third-degree felony forgery and served 60 days in jail. In 2024, Peacock was also sentenced to 100 days in jail and three years of probation after pleading guilty to attempted transfer of a stolen vehicle.

At the sentencing hearing, Judge Brian Cannell credited Peacock for the 65 days he had already served in jail and ordered him to immediately begin paying $200 per month toward restitution.
