SALT LAKE CITY — President Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrated his 94th birthday Wednesday, his first birthday since becoming president of the worldwide church.
Oaks marked the occasion with family in Utah on Monday evening, two days before his Aug. 12 birthday. Church social media accounts also shared photos and messages commemorating the occasion.
The posts highlighted Oaks’ recent invitations to members of the church to be peacemakers and follow Jesus Christ.
Oaks became the 18th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in October 2025.
He has served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since 1984. In 2018, he was sustained as first counselor in the First Presidency.
In recent messages, Oaks has emphasized choosing peace and avoiding contention. During the church’s April 2026 general conference, he encouraged followers of Jesus Christ to use the language and methods of peacemakers.
“As followers of Christ, let us follow Him by forgoing contention and by using the language and methods of peacemakers,” Oaks said.
