LOGAN – The Cache Valley Media Group is holding their fifth annual Latino Festival, taking over Center Street between Main Street and 100 W. in Logan on Saturday Sept. 13 with a full-blown celebration from 10 am. until 10 p.m.
Festival organizer Carolina Calbimonte and Claudia La Chilena from 97.3 JUAN FM, with Conexión Latina members Mayra Cueva (Ecuador) and Diana Manzo (Mexico), will give the Latino heritage, dance, music and food of more than 10 countries an extra push. They also plan to celebrate the birth of the United States 250 years ago.
“We invited everyone to bring an American Flag to have along their country’s flag for the parade,” Calbimonte said. “September is a great time to have this celebration because many Latin American countries have their independence days in mid-September, and this festival pays tribute to all of those celebrations.“
The festival begins at noon by welcoming all the guests and performers. They will then turn time to Conexion Latina Representative and Logan City Council member Ernesto Lopez for some remarks.
“We will begin the celebration by have two girls sing the USA National anthem,” Calbimonte added. “Then we will have performers from the individual countries of Mexico, Venezuela and Ecuador before our Parade of Flags at 2 p.m. We are expecting MTV star Fernando Lopez to be there for the parade.”
At 3:00 p.m. Young Musicians for a Brighter Future will perform.
“For the first time we will have a dancer from Argentina doing the Tango,” she said. “We will have groups form Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Guatemala and El Salvador performing at this year’s festival.“
At 5:40 p.m. they have scheduled Zumba by Deo, Mia and Brooke followed by Banda Los Pulentos del Puerto, a rock band.
“We have lots of food with 18 food trucks from different countries including Colombia, Guatemala, Brazil and Mexico,” Calibmonte said. “We also have 40 vendors.”
At 6:45 Rifas y juegos/DJ Latino Break and at 7 p.m. Orquesta Latin Roots will play the Salsa Merenque y cumbias.
At 9 p.m. the street dance will begin, and the celebration closes at 10 p.m.
