LOGAN — A 44-year-old Bountiful man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested at a Logan gas station Monday. Jason M. Sterett was later booked into the Cache County Jail, where he is being held on several warrants.

According to an arrest report, Logan City Police officers received a tip from a bondsman that Sterett was at a local convenience store Monday night. He was traveling in a black Ford F250.

Police responded to the gas station and searched Sterett’s vehicle. They reportedly found a baggie believed to contain methamphetamine, along with multiple scales, torches, white clear baggies, and tin foil with suspected heroine residue on it.

Officers also reported finding 10 cellphones, a medical prescription for another individual and a Homeland Security Federal Officer Badge which did not belong to Sterett. There was also other drug paraphernalia located.

Sterett reportedly told officers that the items did not belong to him. He acknowledged to “occasionally using illegal drugs, but did not feel comfortable sharing further information,” the report stated. He claimed that he was traveling from one hotel to another in Logan

A search warrant was obtained for Sterett’s urine and blood. He refused to comply with the warrant. Once transported to jail, deputies located another prescription medication he had allegedly tried to conceal.

According to jail records, Sterett was booked on suspicion of distribution of a controlled substance, possession of drugs and paraphernalia, along with other offences.

Court records show Sterett had a warrant issued for his arrest after failing to appear for court in Farmington earlier this month on charges of drug and weapons possession. He has previously been convicted of theft, aggravated assault and other crimes.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
