LOGAN — A 29-year-old Preston man has been sentenced to a year in jail for abusing his infant son.

Sean Paul Richmond appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday after previously pleading guilty in August to child abuse, a third-degree felony.

Richmond was sentenced to one-year in the Cache County Jail. Judge Kevin Allen also left restitution set at $10,000 for the child’s future medical expenses.

In January 2013, Richmond was living in Trenton when he was arrested for abusing his five-month-old son.

State attorney Spencer Walsh said the boy had a spiral fracture to his femur, scratches to his chest, and bruising on his legs and wrists.

“This wasn’t an accident,” said Walsh. “It was blatant child abuse.”

Walsh also said the state had hoped Richmond would be sentenced to prison, based on the severity of the abuse. However, since there wasn’t a prior criminal history, he understood why Judge Allen instead issued the jail sentence.
