LOGAN — A judge has granted bail for a 27-year-old fraternity member who has been in jail for a month since being arrested, accused of allegedly assaulting and raping two girls.
Jason B. Relopez appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday afternoon for a bail hearing. He currently faces two charges of aggravated sexual assault and rape, both first-degree felonies. Prosecutors have also filed an additional charge of failing to stop at the command of law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.
The former Sigma Chi fraternity member was arrested July 21 after a woman claimed he raped her multiple times while she was attending a party at the fraternity house. A second victim later reported also being sexually assaulted by him October 13, 2014, while the two were doing homework in her residence.
Court records show, Judge Brian Cannell ruled Tuesday that Relopez could be released on a $500,000 bail. He ordered him not to have any contact with the victims or potential witnesses in the case. He also prohibited him from using any drugs or alcohol, and possessing any weapons. He must also surrender his passport and be placed on pretrial supervision with Professional Probation Services.
Relopez was ordered to appear again in court September 22 for a pretrial conference.
