LOGAN — A 22-year-old Hyrum woman has been arrested after authorities say she stole a credit card from her adoptive parent and made nearly $4,500 in fraudulent purchases.
Destiny Yvonne Kearl was booked Monday into the Cache County jail.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the alleged victim contacted the Cache County Sheriff’s Office to report fraudulent credit card charges. They told investigators the card was kept in a lockbox in their bedroom and that Kearl, their adopted daughter, was living with them around the time it went missing.
Deputies reviewed the alleged victim’s credit card statements and identified $4,463.56 in unauthorized purchases made on March 3, 2026. Investigators obtained receipts and security camera footage from a local Walmart and Hobby Lobby, which showed Kearl using the stolen card. The card bore the alleged victim’s name, which Kearl knowingly used to obtain the goods.
Deputies located and detained Kearl on Monday, transporting her to the sheriff’s office for an interview. She initially denied knowing anything about a missing or fraudulently used card. However, when shown security footage from a cash register, she admitted she was the person in the photo.
After deputies presented the specific receipt from the fraudulent purchase and the card used, Kearl requested an attorney. She was subsequently booked into jail.
Kearl made an initial appearance Wednesday in Logan’s First District Court. She was charged with four third-degree felonies for identity fraud, theft, unlawful acquisition of a financial card, and unlawful use of a financial card.
Judge Brian Cannell assigned Kearl a public defender and ordered her appear again in court June 8. He also granted her a release from jail, pending the ongoing court case.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
