LOGAN — One of the two hikers rescued Wednesday afternoon has been booked into the Cache County Jail, hours after she and another woman were found stranded along the Spring Hollow Trail in Logan Canyon, US 89.

Amy Cheney of Lewiston was booked into jail at 4:30 p.m. The 19-year-old is being held on a failure to appear warrant out of Box Elder County.

Cheney and a transient, 46-year-old Andrea Price were found by hikers along the Spring Hollow Trail, Wednesday morning. The two claimed to have been stranded for three days, after getting their truck stuck in snow, above Right Hand Fork Canyon.

The hikers who located the two women were able to get cell phone coverage and call county dispatch. Cache County Search and Rescue crews and paramedics were dispatched to the trail-head, above Third Dam to rescue the women.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said when crews located the two women they showed signs of being under the influence of drugs. There were also inconsistencies in their story about being stranded.

“Things they say happened don’t match up with their physical condition,” said Peck. “Right now the 19-year-old is in relatively good condition. So it doesn’t match up with a three day adventure on the mountains being stuck.”

Peck said they do believe the women got their truck stuck and tried to hike out but their claim of being stranded for three days is questionable.

“To be honest,” he said. “I don’t know what to believe right now because when you get under the influence, time changes. We’ve had some conflicting stories, conflicting information regarding injuries.”

Cheney was able to hike out with the help of rescuers and was arrested after being checked by physicians. Price was transported out on a cart by rescuers and taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital. She’s expected to be booked into jail later today.

The truck was located above the White’s Bedding Ground area, up Right Hand Fork Canyon. It was impounded late Wednesday afternoon.

Peck said both Cheney and Price are being charged with possession of methamphetamines.
