BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — The human-caused Harley Fire held at an estimated 199 acres with 25% containment Saturday morning as firefighting crews worked perimeter lines and utility teams repaired damaged infrastructure, according to incident commanders.
Harley Drive remains closed and under a Level 3 “Evacuate Now” notice, requiring residents to stay away from the area. Meanwhile, the neighboring Radio Hill area remains under a Level 1 “Ready” status, meaning residents should prepare for potential evacuations if conditions worsen.
Displaced evacuees seeking shelter or assistance can visit the Garland Armory at 72 N. Main St. Residents who need temporary access to their homes to retrieve essential items can coordinate entry with county liaisons Lanette Sorensen at 435-279-4041 or Lynnette Crockett at 435-740-7590.
While no primary residences have been lost, the wildfire damaged several secondary structures and equipment within the fire perimeter. The blaze also damaged local electrical infrastructure, causing ongoing power outages along Harley Drive. Utility crews worked through the night and will continue repairs throughout Saturday.
Firefighters are focusing operations on securing the fire’s edge, mopping up interior heat, and monitoring changing weather conditions. Incident commanders urged the public to stay clear of active operations and refrain from stopping along freeways or nearby roadways to take photos, warning that spectator traffic creates serious safety hazards for emergency responders.
Officials also reminded the public that unauthorized drone flights anywhere near the fire area will force all firefighting aircraft to land immediately, halting critical aerial operations.
The origin of the human-caused fire remains under investigation. County officials encouraged residents to register for the Everbridge notification system to receive real-time evacuation and emergency updates.
