LOGAN — A 23-year-old former USU football player is being bound over for trial for allegedly selling prescription drugs around campus and raping a woman last fall, according to prosecutors. Kingsley Krey Holliday was originally arrested in July and booked into the Cache County Jail, following an investigation by the North Park Police Department.
According to court records, Kingsley appeared Wednesday, Nov. 22, in Logan’s 1st District Court for a preliminary hearing. He had previously been charged with rape, aggravated kidnapping, forcible sodomy and distribution of a controlled substance, all first-degree felonies, along with obstructing justice and offering a controlled substance, both second-degree felonies.
Kingsley waived his rights to the hearing, where a judge would have reviewed the case and determined whether there was sufficient eveidence to merit the charges. He was ordered to appear again in court Jan. 8.
According to prosecutors, police officers were called to a hospital emergency room on a reported rape on Sept. 3, 2022. The alleged victim claimed she was at an “event,” when an unknown man took her against her will to another location and raped her.
The woman told police the male suspect, later identified as Holliday, grabbed her wrist and dragged her out of the building, across a parking lot, road, and a ditch. He then forcibly sodomized and raped her, a probable cause statement outlined.
Investigators report, witnesses placed Holliday at the event on the night of the incident. DNA evidence was collected from the victim and later matched the suspect’s.
The September event was being held in Hyde Park. It was not sanctioned by the school or football team.
As North Park Police were investigating Holliday for rape, the Cache Rich Drug Taskforce were contacted in April by a confidential informant, claiming the football player was selling Adderall pills. The informant described how they had made arrangements to purchase multiple pills for an agreed upon amount.
The exchange occurred near 777 N. 800 E. within 100 feet of the Logan campus. Law enforcement concluded the location is a drug free zone, based on it taking place during school hours.
In May, agents report they conducted another controlled buy with Holliday for additional Adderall pills. The buy was conducted on the Utah State campus during school hours. The pills were later determined to be Methylphenidate, a prescription drug used to treat ADHD, similar to Adderall.
According to USU’s football roster, Holiday was a junior offensive lineman, who walked onto the team after playing at Snow College. He did not play last season, and was immediately dismissed by the team after being arrested.
Holliday remains in the Cache County Jail, being held without bail. He could face up to life in prison, if convicted.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
