LOGAN – The popular Branson-based family musical ensemble, the Petersens, will return to Cache Valley for one night only on Thursday, Dec. 7.
Their concert – which is a benefit to support the Educational Outreach Program of the Cache Valley Cowboy Rendezvous – is slated for 7 p.m. at Logan High School.
The Petersens are no strangers to northern Utah, having headlined the 2022 Cowboy Rendezvous to rave reviews from a packed crowd of local country music lovers.
“If you’re missing the Bar J Wranglers this Christmas time,” says concert organizer Dale Major, “give the Petersens a listen for a fun and lively event to start off the holiday season.”
The Bar J Wranglers retired from performing in December of 2021, but there’s no danger of the Petersens following them into obscurity.
The Petersens family band features talented musicians and vocalists ranging in age from mid-30s to mid-20s who have just begin to hit their stride.
They are siblings Katie Petersen, 33, on fiddle; Ellen Petersen Haygood, 31, on banjo; Matt Petersen, 29, on guitar; and Julianne Petersen, 22 on mandolin. The band also includes their mother, Karen Petersen on upright bass and Emmett Franz – an honorary Petersen – on dobro.
Although the Petersens’ international fame is derived from their YouTube channel (where they have hundreds of thousands of subscribers and more than 200 million views), the band is also among the top rated live shows in Branson, MO and has completed multiple tours here in North America and overseas in Europe, Ireland and Finland.
In those travels, the band members have picked up an affinity for Irish folk songs, which they have incorporated into their stage act as foot-stomping instrumental numbers. The rest of their touring set is normally a combination of tunes by the bands’ favorite artists — with The Petersens’ distinctive personal touches added – plus familiar country tunes.
Here in Logan, however, the Petersen will be offering a traditional Christmas concert, Major says. That program will be full of beloved Christmas classics, warm family moments of laughter and a reminder of what this time of year is truly about.
Tickets to the Petersens’ concert on Dec. 7 can be purchased by going online to https://www.cvcowboy.org.
