First COVID death in weeks reported in Bear River Health District – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – For the first time in weeks a death due to COVID-19 in the Bear River Health District was included in the state health department’s normal Thursday update.

Among the 19 coronavirus deaths the last seven days throughout the state, one was a Cache County woman between 65-84 years of age. There were 10 deaths across the state the previous week. Utah’s death toll over 27 months of the pandemic is 4,834.

Cases increased from last week to this week by just over 7,400 and since the start of the pandemic there have been 982,895 positive cases in Utah.

State officials have kept a careful watch on hospitalizations — which grew by one since last week — and the numbers of patients in intensive care which dropped over the same period.

Utah has shut down most of its free testing facilities so with fewer people are being tested officials say new cases are a less accurate way to track the spread of COVID-19.

With 2,031,689 Utahns fully vaccinated, that is almost 63 percent of the state’s population.

Checking the latest COVID numbers from the Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties shows there have been 248 coronavirus deaths and over 53,000 positive cases in the Bear River Health District since the outbreak in March, 2020.

There were 228 new cases in the district since last week and now 67 percent of the northern Utah population (Age 5+) have received at least one dose of vaccine.
