LOGAN — Police report a fatal vehicle-pedestrian accident Wednesday morning at 2230 South US 89/91, south of Logan was intentional. The accident killed a 26-year-old transgender woman from Cache Valley.
Logan City Police Capt. Tyson Budge said emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene on report that the victim had been struck by a dump truck, travelling north.
“According to witnesses and information that we gathered on the scene, it appears that the pedestrian had jumped in front of that northbound vehicle,” said Budge. “We believe that the act was intentional.”
“Evidence at the scene gave every indication that the driver had attempted to swerve and brake, to avoid the collision but was unable to do so.”
The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital. They were later released. The truck belonged to LeGrand Johnson Construction and was impounded pending the investigation.
Budge said detectives were able to positively identify the pedestrian. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the circumstances and in respect to her family, her identity is not being released.
Budge said the victim reportedly posted a suicide note earlier in the day on her Facebook page.
“During the investigation we started to receive some information from people calling, concerned about the victims welfare because of some postings they had read on a social media site which also gave us some information about the deceased and the intent there.”
The accident was reported at 11:15 a.m.
Northbound traffic along US 89/91 was diverted while crews investigated and cleared the accident.
