LOGAN — Erik Christensen has been named Utah State University’s new chief of police, university officials announced. He will officially assume the role Sept. 1.

Christensen has served with the USU Police Department since March 2015. He was appointed interim chief in September 2025 and has served as acting chief since May.

In his new role, Christensen will lead the university’s police division, focusing on campus safety, community engagement, and collaboration with students, faculty, and local stakeholders.

“Erik is a respected leader who brings extensive law enforcement experience, a strong commitment to community engagement, and a deep understanding of higher education public safety,” said Ellis Bruch, executive director of the USU Department of Public Safety.

Bruch added that Christensen’s vision and experience will continue to support the university’s broader mission and strengthen public safety efforts across campus.
