LOGAN — A horse died Wednesday morning, despite emergency crew’s efforts, after it became stuck in the mud. The distressed animal was reported in a field near Center and 1000 West.

Logan City Police Lt. Derek Dickey said motorists called 911, saying the horse appeared to be stuck in a swampy area of the field. Police and animal control officers arrived and found the animal trapped in the mud.

The horse was pulled from the swampy area but was in “pretty bad condition,” explained Dickey. A veterinarian was called to the scene, who determined the animal was suffering from extreme exhaustion.

As crews were attempting to treat the horse, it suffered a seizure and died.

Police located the owner of the horse, a Salt Lake City resident, and notified them of the death.

Dickey said investigators later determined the animal had jumped over a fence Tuesday evening and likely had been stuck in the mud all night.
