LOGAN – The Ellen Eccles Theatre will celebrate the approaching Halloween holiday by presenting Frankenstein: A Living Comic Book on Thursday, Oct. 23.
The touring show is a family friendly stage play that reimagines Mary Shelley’s classic 1816 novel through the visual style of a graphic novel.
As one of the Cache Valley Center for the Arts’ 2025-2026 National Touring Season offerings, the production will blend live actors with comic-book visuals and sound effects to create an immersive theatrical experience.
Presented by Kidoons and WYRD Productions, this adaptation confronts modern issues such as climate change, artificial intelligence and humanity’s relationship with technology, according to co-writer Paul Van Dyck, as well as the original themes of Ms. Shelley’s novel.
Kidoons has a history of creating technologically infused productions — including Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Jungle Book – that have toured theaters through Canada and the United States.
Van Dyck explains that Frankenstein: A Living Comic Book is the story of a modern-day graphic novelist named Mary, who discovers the lost journal of Dr. Victor Frankenstein.
As she reads the journal, the events of Frankenstein’s chilling experiments and the creation of his monster come to life on stage, blurring the lines between reality and fiction.
Mary and the audience are pulled into the story, exploring the unintended consequences of ambition and the concept of “monsters of our own making.”
While the play is billed as “family friendly,” it is recommended for children ages 8 and up, as the high-energy performance includes some elements that may be frightening for very young children, including flashing lights, thunder and mild violence.
Frankenstein: A Living Comic Book will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Ellen Eccles Theatre.
Tickets for that event can be purchased by going online to https://www.cachearts.org/shows
The Ellen Eccles Theatre is located at 43 South Main Street in downtown Logan.
