LOGAN — Police have arrested a 26-year-old man, Douglas Chavez, who allegedly stole a vehicle and then led deputies and officers on a chase before being caught in North Logan.
Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said a deputy located the stolen vehicle Sunday after officers from Logan City Police Department reported it being taken.
As the deputy turned on his lights and siren to pull the vehicle over, Chavez sped up and tried to flee. As the deputy got close to the vehicle, the suspect attempted to make a U-turn and crashed into the front of the deputy’s car, causing minimal damage.
Peterson said Chavez then jumped out of the car window and tried to run away. The deputy ran after him for about a block before catching him.
Chavez was arrested and booked on suspicion of theft, possession of methamphetamine, failing to stop at the command of law enforcement and other offenses. He is being held in the Cache County Jail on $15,000 bail. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
