It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Darla Downs of Smithfield, who left this world on September 24, 2023, at the age of 81. Raised on a small farm in the picturesque town of Cornish, Utah, Darla’s life was marked by love, dedication, and a deep affection for her family.

Darla shared her life’s journey with her devoted husband, Merrill Downs, a testament to the enduring power of their love. Their journey was not without its challenges, but it was a love that stood the test of time, demonstrating the strength that comes from commitment and unwavering support for one another. One of the passions Darla and Merrill shared was their love for racing horses, a hobby that brought them both joy and excitement over the years. Their dedication to these magnificent animals reflected the unity they shared as a couple, working together to nurture and care for their equine companions.

In addition to her career as a loving wife, Darla also spent her working years at JCPenney, where she touched the lives of countless customers and colleagues with her warm and caring spirit. On weekends, she could be found indulging in her passion for shopping, a pastime she often shared with her children, creating cherished memories and bonds that would last a lifetime.

Above all else, Darla Downs will be remembered as a loving and devoted grandmother, a title she held with immense pride and joy. Her heart was an open book, where the pages were filled with unconditional love for her grandchildren. Darla’s willingness to do anything for her beloved grandchildren knew no bounds. Whether it was making their favorite dishes, attending sporting events, or providing a comforting shoulder to lean on, she was a source of unwavering support and love.

Darla’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, generosity, and love. She leaves behind a family and a community who will forever be grateful for the warmth and light she brought into their lives.

Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband, Merrill Downs, her children, and her adoring grandchildren. She will forever remain in our hearts as a shining example of love and devotion.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Rosa Valoise Moser; her sisters Karlyn Canfield (Wayne), Nancy Hirst (Bruce); and brother-in-law Keith Daveline.

She is survived by her husband, Merrill Downs; sisters, Paula Thornley (GlenJay), Peggy Daveline; children, Holly Bair, Heidi Jessop (Dan), Reese Downs, Darcie Moss (Rod); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday September 29th in Smithfield, Utah.

Darla Downs will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as her memory lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
