An overflow crowd turned out for a public hearing hosted by the Cache Valley Transit District Board of Directors on Wednesday where seeking input on whether or not the zero-fare policy of the CVTD should continue. A strong majority of those attending said they favored the no-fare system and many of the citizens spoke out about how the bus system is benefiting their lives.
Results of a survey recently conducted by Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz and Associates which showed that a majority of the respondents said they have a favorable opinion of the Cache Valley Transit District and the main reason they support it is because the system is fare-free.
“The survey told us that, again, the strong majority of the registered voters in Cache Valley favored keeping the bus system zero fare,” said Doug Thompson, chairman of the CVTD Board of Directors. “Probably as important as that was, we were very pleased that 84% of the voters had positive feelings about CVTD.”
Some of the bus users said the bus was their only form of transportation while others said they use the system to save money on gasoline and because it helps the environment.
