CACHE COUNTY – Community leaders from Cache Valley are being invited to the Northern Utah New American Symposium on Mar. 31.
That event is scheduled for 9 to 2:30 p.m. in the Perry Pavilion of the Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University.
“The day-long symposium will offer the opportunity for local stakeholders to engage on issues related to New Americans in northern Utah,” according to Karina Brown, a policy analyst in the office of County Executive David Zook.
“That gathering will bring together national experts and local practitioners on immigrants and refugees,” she explains.
“They will discuss the latest research; federal and state policies and initiatives; as well as strategies that foster the economic inclusion and integration of New American in Utah.”

The Northern Utah New American Symposium is sponsored by the Center for Growth and Opportunity, the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, the Center for Economic Opportunity and Belonging, Utah State University and the Cache Refugee and Immigrant Connection.
The local symposium will take place one day after a Municipal Leaders Convening on Citizenship gathering in Salt Lake City on Mar. 30.
That event will give municipal leaders an opportunity to discuss promoting citizenship with experts from the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service and the National Partnership for New Americans.
Elected officials, county and city leaders are invited to attend. That convening will take place at 8:30 a.m. in the Zion Bank Tower at 1 South Main St. in Salt Lake City.

The New Americans Task Force was organized in May of 2022 as a joint effort of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity and its Center for Immigration Assistance, the Economic Development Corporation of Utah and its Center for Economic Opportunity and Belonging, the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and World Trade Center in Utah.
The task force is part of a statewide effort to develop a comprehensive strategy to maximize New Americans’ economic opportunities, social integration and civic potential in an effort to build a robust economy and a community of belonging.
