LOGAN — A 40-year-old Clearfield woman has been sentenced to six months in jail and three years of probation for stealing thousands of dollars from a Logan company. Chelsie Nicole Candia is reported to have taken approximately $50,000 while employed with the rental property management company in 2021.

According to court records, Candia was sentenced May 19 in Logan’s 1st District Court. She previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to theft/deception, a second-degree felony.

According to court documents, Logan City Police officers were contacted by a regional manager of the property company in March 2022. He explained how Candia had taken tenant’s rent payments and fees for parking stall passes while she was supposed to be overseeing multiple apartment complexes.

Several tenants said Candia had moved them into vacant apartments and would have them pay their rent directly to her. Another tenant explained how he had purchased a parking stall pass from the defendant but his vehicle was still towed.

The company had launched their own internal investigation after receiving multiple complaints. Additional tenants claimed they had paid Candia either through various mobile apps or a bank account that was registered to the defendant’s cousin.

Police interviewed the family member. She explained how Candia had asked to use the account while her company set up its own rent collection app.

Candia was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail after a warrant was issued by a judge. She was later released after posting $10,000 bail.

During Monday’s sentencing, Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Candia to serve 180 days in jail, giving credit for six days previously served. Following incarceration, she’ll be placed on probation for 36 months.
