LOGAN — A 27-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to two weeks in jail and two years of probation for reportedly sexually abusing a female acquaintance. Patrick Burke Thompson was originally arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail in January 2024.

According to court records, Thompson was sentenced May 19, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously pleaded “no contest” to three amended counts of sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor.

The plea meant Thompson conceded the alleged crimes occurred without admitting guilt or offering a defense. It is still viewed as a guilty plea in court.

According to prosecutors, Logan City Police officers received a call from the victim in December 2023. She explained how Thompson, who she was previously in a relationship with, had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions.

The woman told police, Thompson would allegedly touch her inappropriately. When she would tell him “no” and push his hands away, he would become manipulative and lecture her.

During one incident in September 2023, Thompson began groping the woman while on a date. As she again expressed uneasiness with his advances, he ignored her, removed her clothing and started molesting her.

The woman continued to resist and was later able to leave.

Police questioned Thompson as part of their investigation. He said the victim suffered from mental illness and anxiety. When asked about the sexual assault allegations, he reportedly declined to answer.

During Monday’s sentencing, Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Thompson to serve 15 days in jail, followed by 24 months of probation. He also prohibited the Logan man from having any contact with the victim and be placed on the sex-offender registry.
