BEAR LAKE, Idaho — As summer activities increase at Bear Lake, the Idaho State Police is mobilizing additional troopers and specialized equipment to enhance public safety throughout the busy tourist season.
With thousands of visitors expected at the popular reservoir’s waters, campgrounds and trails, the agency is expanding its regional footprint. State troopers will conduct traditional vehicle patrols alongside all-terrain vehicles, which provide critical access to shorelines and remote off-road areas.
Authorities also plan to deploy drones during peak periods to assist with search and rescue operations and monitor public safety incidents.
To manage the seasonal surge, ISP is coordinating with the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the Idaho Department of Lands and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.
“Bear Lake is one of Idaho’s most popular summer destinations, and that comes with a significant increase in traffic and calls for service,” ISP Capt. Clint Skinner said. He urged visitors to do their part by utilizing seat belts and life jackets, and by never driving impaired.
The heightened law enforcement presence will remain in effect throughout the summer.
