LOGAN – The “Carpenters Platinum” will return to Logan on Saturday, Dec. 7 to perform at LionHeart Hall.
Having previously played to a sell-out crowd at the Ellen Eccles Theatre in October of 2023, the tribute band to the musical duo of Karen and Richard Carpenter will be offering a Christmas show during this visit to Cache Valley.
While the band’s set list will undoubtedly include the Carpenters’ holiday anthem “Merry Christmas, Darling,” they will likely also re-create seldom-heard deep cuts from the brother-sister duo’s Christmas albums.
Those were “Christmas Portrait,” released in 1974, and “Old-Fashioned Christmas,” released after Karen’s death in 1984.
The original “Carpenters” were a vocal and instrumental duo popular throughout the 1970s. They produced a unique soft music style, combining Karen’s vocals with Richard’s harmonizing, arranging and composition skills.
When the “Carpenters Platinum” are recreating Karen’s velvety smooth vocals, that challenge falls mostly to LynnDee Mueller, with an assist from back-up singer Mary Beesley.
Together, they recaptured Karen’s tonal purity, her exceptionally strong contralto voice in lower registers and the silky phrasing that made the Carpenters a recurrent hit machine during their 14-year reign.
The other members of the tribute band’s line-up include Jake Saslow on saxophone and clarinet, Rod Strong on keyboards and vocals, Tony Herrman on bass and Jon Heitkamp on drums.
The tribute band will offer two performances of their Christmas show, a matinee at 1 p.m. and a evening concert at 7 p.m.
