June 21, 1953 ~ March 27, 2023 (age 69)
Carma Lynn Jones Reeder was called home to her Heavenly Father on March 27, 2023 after a 7 year illness. She was born on June 21, 1953, in Farmington New Mexico to Myles Rey Jones and Elsie Rose Swapp Jones.
Carma was one of seven children and spent her youth helping on the family dairy farm in Fruitland New Mexico where she vowed to never marry a farmer. She graduated from Central High School in Kirtland New Mexico in 1971. She attended New Mexico State University for one year and then transferred to BYU where she was working on a degree in Home Economics and Education. She met her eternal love Brent Heninger Reeder on June 14, 1974 and they were engaged on June 24, only 9 days later. Brent knew she was his eternal companion from the moment he saw her and it only took Mom a few minutes to think it through to know the same. They were married for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on November 26, 1974. Brent took over the family dairy farm North of Brigham City Utah not long after they were married and he and Carma ran Shady Brook Dairy together for 25 years. After the dairy cows were sold, Brent continued his passion of raising beef cows but she could finally be done with farming.
Carma devoted her life to her husband and family. As a friend, daughter, sister, wife, and mom she was adored and loved by many that got the privilege to call her theirs. Brent and Carma were blessed with three handsome boys first who were instilled with hard work, respect, and love for family. They then had three beautiful daughters. Carma quickly told Brent he had the boys to help him with chores on the farm, but “her” girls were always kept by her side where she taught them all her many talents and trades in life. She loved each of us individually as we are all so unique, and in turn we each got the opportunity to have our own version of a unique and special relationship with our Mom.
Carma also had many “bonus” kids in life from her days running an in home day care as well as her children’s friends who were always in and out. She loved and thought of them all as her own. Carma worked tirelessly and endlessly to create a happy life and home for her family. Her love was evident in all that she did. She was humble and the most selfless person we know always thinking of everyone around her and advocating for another’s point of view. She was our greatest cheerleader and even after being around so many kids there were never a toddlers first steps, a school grade, or any accomplishment big or small that ceased to amaze her or go uncelebrated.
Carma was a master seamstress, crafter, cook, gardener, organizer, canner, and while not insta famous, she was one of the very first DIY’ers. She was often creating the most amazing things out of nothing. She was meticulous with every detail and everything was always put together looking like it was straight from a catalog. Her home was always picture perfect.
She had a deep love for where she grew up and the Navajo culture. This was often brought into her home through decorating. She loved turquoise jewelry, but we all know her very favorite color was coral. Mom was beautiful and classic. She had natural style and always looked polished and perfect.
Carma was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved serving and sharing her time and talents with the Church. She held many callings, but her favorite were always with children or youth. She loved attending the Temple and even when health limitations came, she continued to attend and go as often as she could.
Carma and Brent have 24 grandchildren with one expected this Summer and her first great grandchild expected this Fall. She loved her grandchildren and loved to plan special events just to get them to come visit her. They all know when the sun is shining it’s a hug from Grandma. She loved the Sunshine. This record breaking snow year was just too much and she had had enough. We find peace knowing she found sunshine and is able to be pain free doing all the things for us that bring beauty and love.
Carma is survived by her beloved husband Brent. Her children, Ryan (Rachel) Reeder of Logan, Chad (Jamie) Reeder of Brigham City, Daniel (Jodi) Reeder of Deweyville, Carin (JC) Larson of Brigham City, Melissa (Jake) Kinghorn of Boise ID, and Emily (Riley) Skinner of Ogden.
