Due to a revised filing period for local political candidates, Cache County has announced the slate of candidates who will run for elected posts in the upcoming primary and general elections.

CACHE COUNTY – The suspense is over.

Thanks to a rare agreement between Utah Republicans and Democrats to advance the filing period for 2022 political candidates by one week, the slate of Cache County candidates is now finalized.

Local officials who will run unopposed to retain their posts in November include Cache County Executive David N. Zook, County Attorney John D. Luthy, Clerk/Auditor Jess W. Bradfield and County Sheriff D. Chad Jensen.

Newcomer Sandi Goodlander will also run unopposed for the Logan 3 seat on the Cache County Council. She will replace Paul Borup on the council.

County council member Gina H. Worthen will be opposed by challengers Mark R. Hurd, Craig R. Humpreys and Chris Booth for the Northeast seat on the county panel.

Running for the Southeast seat on the county panel will be Kathryn A. Beus, Ladd Kennington and Shaun Dustin. One of those candidates will replace Gordon Zilles, who had previously announced that he would not seek reelection.

Three candidates will run unopposed for the Cache County School Board. They are Larry J. Williams (for District 3), Randall Bagley (for District 4) and Teri B. Rhodes (for District 3).

In the running for the District 2 seat on the school board are Roger Pulsipher and Melissa W. Wallace while Kristie D. Cooley and Cole W. Checketts vie for the District 5 seat.

Kirt Lindley and Bret Randall are also running unopposed for at large and Northwest seats on the Cache Water District respectively.

Under previous state law, the official window for would-be candidates to file for local, state and national offices would have opened Monday, March 7 and closed on Friday, March 11.

But that filing period would have fallen in the middle of party caucus night events throughout the state.

For example, the GOP Caucus in Cache County is slated for March 8.

To avoid that conflict, lawmakers advanced Senate Bill 70 early in the recently concluded 2022 legislative session to move the statewide filing window of candidates from March 7 to 11 to Feb. 28 to March 4.
