LOGAN — A 29-year-old Brigham City man has been sentenced to prison for grooming and molesting a young girl. Taegen Matsu Udy has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested in March.

Udy was sentenced Feb. 4 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a child and one count of enticing a minor, all amended to second-degree felonies.

Cache County Sheriff’s deputies received a report in February 2025 from a woman, who explained how Udy had sexually assaulted her 9-year-old daughter approximately five years earlier. The crime had occurred while the Brigham City man had stayed the night at her residence.

A forensic interview with the victim was conducted at the Cache Children’s Justice Center. During questioning, the girl explained how Udy had molested her.

The victim’s mother also provided text messages Udy had sent her daughter, trying to groom her for more sexual activity. The messages included the defendant asking the girl for pictures of herself and discussing the crime, according to prosecutors.

Deputies reviewed the messages and found instances where Udy asked the girl not to tell anyone about their conversations. He also explained how to delete their text threads, telling her that no one would understand their relationship because of the age difference.

During Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, Udy told the court he was deeply sorry for what he did, and accepted full responsibility for his actions and the hurt he had caused the victim.

The now 10-year-old girl then told the court how her life had been impacted by Udy’s actions. She said that at the age of 3 she didn’t have words to describe what happened to her, but her mind and body didn’t forget. Since then she has struggled with depression and anxiety.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck praised the girl for her courageous example. She called Udy’s actions disgusting and horrific, sentencing him to a combined term of between two to 30 years in prison, and giving credit for 339 days already served.
