MIDVALE – The Utah High School Activities Association today announced it will be adding boys volleyball as a new sanctioned sport.

The UHSAA Board-of-Trustees voted Thursday to add the sport to the list of sanctioned activities, with state tournament competition beginning in the Spring season of the 2023-24 academic year. According to the Utah Boys Volleyball Association, there are currently 46 high school club teams throughout the state. Closer to home, Ridgeline and Sky View have teams that compete against other schools in Weber and Davis counties.

The sport was added according to the Association’s ‘Emerging Sports Policy’. Boys volleyball is the latest in a string of recent sports sanctioned by UHSAA since the 2016-17 academic year, including boys and girls lacrosse, girls wrestling and competitive cheerleading (which will hold its first sanctioned state championship event next year).

Last spring, when UHSAA was deciding whether or not to make boys volleyball a sanctioned sport, Cache Boys Volleyball coach Crystal Howe joined the Full Court Press on 106.9 The FAN to talk about the growing sport: https://www.podcastics.com/podcast/episode/the-full-court-press-cache-boys-volleyball-march-26-2021-71115/
