TREMONTON — A Bear River Middle School student was arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly having a gun and knife at school. The juvenile was later transported to the Cache Valley Detention Center and booked on multiple charges.

According to a press release from the Tremonton-Garland Police Department, multiple students a the middle school contacted school administrators and reported that another student was in possession of a handgun. The administrator immediately contacted school resource officers with the police department, who responded along with school administration. They contacted the student and located a 9 mm handgun concealed on their person.

The student was taken into custody without incident.

In addition to the handgun, law enforcement also allegedly recovered a large knife that the student had on them.

Police report that the parents of the juvenile were notified by administrators and responded to the school. Officers asked to interview the suspect, to determine the intentions and how the firearm was obtained but the juvenile’s parents refused.

The suspect’s identity is not being released due to their age.

The case is being referred to 1st District Juvenile Court.

Police report that there are no further known threats at the school, but there will be an added law enforcement presence for several days.
