PRESTON, Idaho — Officials and family members have publicly identified the missing Utah man found dead Sunday afternoon. Franklin County Coroner Jordan Webb said 40-year-old Sefton Patric Wilde was found in the mountainous Willow Flat area east of Preston. 

Emergency responders located Wilde’s body following a multi-agency search that began Saturday. Family members initially reported him missing after discovering his vehicle parked in the Willow Flat area, a popular campground located about 10 miles east of Preston. He had last been seen April 23 in Lewiston. 

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies and search and rescue personnel initiated the search on Saturday. Search dogs and emergency responders from Cache County joined the effort. 

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mikelshan Bartschi said search and rescue teams spent 12 hours searching the area. Crews discovered the body Sunday afternoon. 

Webb confirmed no foul play is suspected in the Wilde’s death. 

Family members wrote in Wilde’s obituary, Sef will be remembered as the master of “bad dad jokes,” with an incredible gift for making everyone around him feel safe, seen, and comfortable. His loved ones reflected on a man who fiercely cherished his people, appreciated the beauty in everyday moments, and always brought warmth and humor to those lucky enough to know him. 

Relatives have organized a Celebration of Life on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home in Preston. Viewings will take place on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home, giving friends and family the opportunity to gather and share memories.
