When health clubs shut down at the height of the pandemic, many turned to working out at home. Now they are weighing their options of returning to a gym or continuing to work out at home.

Cami Flygare, a health promotion specialist with Intermountain Healthcare, explains positive reasons to continue workouts at home.

“Of course, it’s going to cost a lot less, depending on if you need equipment or not,” Flygare explains. “You can be a lot more flexible with your time, there’s a lot more autonomy involved in exercising at home.

“And there are a lot of great resources out there now, that we didn’t used to have, especially when it comes to apps and You Tube and exercise videos. It can also save you travel time if you’re working out at home.”

She says there are advantages to returning to health clubs.

“There are a lot more classes and variety to try out, so if there’s something you’ve wanted to try, you’ve got more access to that,” she says. “There is a lot more equipment as well. There’s also the social aspect, having more people around.”

She said the national trend shows many heading back to gyms.

“We’ve had a big influx of people going back into gyms. But, during those two years, a lot of people adapted their fitness regimes to working out at home.

“And so there’s many people that have found great success in a new type of fitness model for themselves.”
