LOGAN — Southbound traffic through Sardine Canyon, U.S. 89/91 came to a halt Friday evening following a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck tanker and a pickup truck near the canyon summit.
The collision occurred around 5:45 p.m., according to Logan City police dispatch.
Utah Highway Patrol Jason Kendrick said the pickup was on Mount Pisgah Road attempting a left-hand turn onto the highway, when it pulled in front of the southbound semi-truck.
The driver of pickup sustained life-threatening injuries. He was treated by paramedics and flown to McKay-Dee Hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the semi-truck was also injured. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital in serious condition.
All southbound lanes were closed at the summit while emergency personnel cared for the injured, investigated the cause of the accident, and worked to clear the wreckage. Northbound traffic through Sardine Canyon remained open but with delays. The highway was reopened by 7:30 p.m.
