BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — A former northern Utah elementary school teacher previously investigated for misconduct has been charged with raping a student inside a school closet and abusing another child, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
Patrick Alan Green, 63, faces first-degree felony counts of rape of a child, sodomy upon a child, and two counts of object rape of a child in Box Elder County.
According to charging documents, the alleged rape occurred between August 2020 and June 2021 while Green was a teacher at Garland Elementary School. Investigators said a student under age 14 was assisting Green with cleaning his classroom when he forced her into a janitor’s closet, touched her inappropriately, and raped her.
In a separate case filed the same day, prosecutors charged Green with four counts of first-degree felony aggravated sexual abuse of a child. Charges state Green inappropriately touched another student at his desk, at her desk, and later at a community pool in Brigham City.
Green was previously arrested in October 2022 following initial allegations of aggravated child sexual abuse. Following his arrest, the Box Elder School District placed Green on administrative leave and officially terminated him. Green had taught in the district for roughly 24 years, spending his final seven or eight years at Garland Elementary.
Although police ordered Green held without bail in 2022, no charges were filed at the time. The Box Elder County Attorney’s Office said it reviewed the referral then but determined the evidence was insufficient to prosecute, noting that declining prosecution reflected only the evidence available at that time rather than a finding of guilt or innocence.
Green also faces charges in Cache County following a separate July arrest. Prosecutors charged him with eight third-degree felony counts of lewdness involving a child and one class B misdemeanor count of lewdness. Police allege Green submerged himself underwater and exposed his genitals to several minor girls at a community pool in Nibley. Witnesses reported Green was playing music popular with young girls during the incidents.
Green remains in custody as court proceedings move forward.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
