LOGAN — A 34-year-old Hyde Park man and registered sex offender faces a felony lewdness charge after allegedly exposing himself to an employee at a local spray tanning business, according to court documents.
Dakota Joe Denton was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Cache County Jail following an investigation by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a probable cause statement, the incident occurred Oct. 5 when Denton visited a local business for a spray tanning appointment. The establishment maintains a policy requiring all male customers to wear bottoms during spray tanning sessions because the employees working at the business are female.
Investigators noted that Denton was aware of the facility’s policy prior to his appointment. However, he allegedly went into the spray tent completely nude and was facing the female employee when she entered the tent to perform the service, court records state.
Denton made an initial appearance Wednesday in Logan’s 1st District Court. He was charged with third-degree felony lewdness, enhanced from a lower-level offense because he is a registered sex offender under state statute.
According to court records, Denton was previously convicted of lewdness in 2015 and again in 2020. He originally served 56 days in jail on the first case and 2 1/2 years in prison on the second, before being released on parole in October 2024.
During Wednesday’s court hearing, Judge Brian Cannell set Denton’s bail at $5,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim. He also ordered the Hyde Park man to appear again in court Nov. 2.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
