LOGAN – City officials and the business community leaders here are planning events on Saturday, Oct. 24 to mark the opening of the long-awaited underpass trail spanning Main Street in Logan.

Jointly organized by Logan City and the Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at 506 South Main Street, near the location of the underpass at 600 South near the Logan River bridge on U.S. 89.

With construction work begun in September of 2025, the more than $4 million project was a joint effort by Logan City officials and the Utah Department of Transportation to create a bike/pedestrian underpass spanning Main Street.

The underpass at 600 South Main will connect more than 17 miles of existing east and west trail segments with new trail sections at the Riverwalk and Gateway developments.

Completion of the underpass will allow for alternative ways of commuting and improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists, according to city officials.

In addition to the ribbon-cutting on Oct. 24, city and chamber of commerce officials will also host a free Breast Cancer Awareness Five-Kilometer Race and Fun Run that morning.

Chamber organizers say they are expecting a wonder turn-out for the race and see the event as a perfect opportunity to introduce the new trail section while supporting a vital cause.

Race participants can check in at 506 South Main Street from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., with the race slated to begin at 9 a.m.

Organizers are hoping that the local business community to support the breast cancer race by providing snacks, water, healthy food options or coupons/gift certificates for distribution to race participants.

Anyone interested in supporting the breast cancer awareness event is asked to contact Hadjer Bensaha via e-mail at Hadjer@cachechamber.com

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the United States.
