WENDELL, Idaho — A 25-year-old Salt Lake City man died Thursday afternoon after driving a van into the back of a semi-truck on Interstate 84 in southern Idaho, state police said.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. on westbound I-84 west of Wendell. According to Idaho State Police, a Dodge van rear-ended a Freightliner semi-truck hauling a trailer while both vehicles were traveling west.

The driver of the Dodge van succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 64-year-old man from Mount Judea, Arkansas, was not injured.

Emergency crews blocked the right lane of I-84 for about two hours to clear the area. The Gooding County Sheriff’s Office and the Wendell Fire Department assisted state police at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
