LOGAN — An adult male is in custody following an armed dispute in Logan on Saturday that drew a massive police presence, prompted a SWAT team response, and triggered a temporary shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.
According to Logan City Police Captain Shand Nazer, officers were initially dispatched to the area of 400 West and 1100 North after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a heated dispute and gunfire. The callers included both bystanders who witnessed the altercation and individuals directly involved in the incident.
Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers located spent shell casings scattered on the ground and discovered a vehicle with apparent bullet holes. Due to the severe and active nature of the incident, authorities immediately issued a reverse-911 call instructing neighborhood residents to shelter in place. SWAT teams were also called in to safely secure the perimeter.
Nazer said officers quickly apprehended an adult male believed to be the primary shooter and safely took him into police custody.
Although authorities confirmed that people were inside the targeted vehicle when it was fired upon, no injuries were reported during the incident.
Following the suspect’s arrest, police officially lifted the shelter-in-place order. Officials emphasized that no other suspects are believed to be outstanding, and there is no longer an active threat to the community. Detectives remain on the scene to conduct a thorough investigation and interview witnesses. The public is being asked to avoid the area for the rest of the evening while investigators process the scene.
The identity of the suspect was not released, pending the investigation and possible charges.
Nazer expressed gratitude for the rapid response of its patrol officers, SWAT operators, and detectives, as well as multiple assisting agencies, including the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, Brigham City Police Department, Utah State University Police Department and Cache County Attorney’s Office.
