LOGAN — Heavy snow over the weekend and cold temperatures has prompted many Cache Valley schools to delay the start of classes Monday morning. The announcement came after the National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Warning, forecasting overnight temperatures around -11.

Sunday night, officials with both the Cache County and Logan City school districts postponed the start of Monday classes for two hours. Morning preschool and kindergarten classes were also canceled for both districts.

Logan City School District spokesperson Shana Longhurst said buses will run their normal routes, but on a delayed schedule. Lunch will be served at school and breakfast will be available as needed. Students will be released from school at the normal time at the end of the day. All day sessions of kindergarten will resume with the delayed start but both half day sessions of preschool and kindergarten will be canceled for today.

“Even with the delayed start,” explained Longhurst, “please give yourself a little extra time to get to schools, and be safe on the roads! Dress warm!”

An email sent to parents in the Cache County School District read, “We encourage parents to also take actions as appropriate to respond to cold weather conditions, such as dressing children warmly, driving children to bus stops, etc. We live in a large valley and conditions can vary widely, so family based decisions are important as colder temperatures are going to be with us for at least a few days.”
