The Pickleville Playhouse in Garden City has announced auditions for its upcoming productions of ‘Thick as Thieves’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’ this summer.
GARDEN CITY – The Pickleville Playhouse has announced auditions for its 2023 summer season.
From now through Feb. 18, the Davis clan will be accepting video audition submissions from male and female actors ages 18 and up to perform in the rustic theatre’s upcoming productions of the original melodrama Thick as Thieves and a reprise of the Disney musical The Little Mermaid.
“Some roles will be double-cast,” according to director Derek Davis. “That allows us to accommodate potential scheduling conflicts.
“All cast and crew roles are paid positions,” he adds. “Housing is arranged and daytime employment is available for those who are interested.”
Would-be performers are required to submit videos of two vocal selections of 16- to 32- measures, one in the style of The Little Mermaid and the other showcasing a comedic characterization.
Applicants will also be required to submit a video demonstration of their dancing skills.

“In a single E-Mail,” Davis says, “please send us your completed audition packet, a current headshot, a musical theatre resume and video links to your vocal and dance auditions.”
The director added that video links to unlisted YouTube videos are the Pickleville troupe’s preferred method of receiving videos.
Davis explains that callback invitation will be sent out after Feb. 18. Those callbacks will also take place via video submissions.
“We hope to make final casting decisions by April 1,” he says. “In the meantime, if an applicant receives an offer from another company, we encourage them to call or E-Mail to check on their status with Pickleville.
“We will be as candid as possible in letting them know where that stand with us, so that they can make the best possible decision.”
The Pickleville Playhouse is scheduled to present the original melodrama Trick as Thieves from May 26 to Sept. 4.
By popular demand, that show will be performed in repertory with the Disney musical The Little Mermaid from June 20 to Aug. 18.
