LOGAN — A 2-year-old girl drowned in a Logan canal east of Ellis Elementary School. The incident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. Friday night.

Logan City Police Captain Shand Nazer said 911 dispatch operators received a report of the missing girl from her home, near 70 N. 400 West. Officers immediately arrived in the neighborhood and began searching the area, including the Benson Canal that runs in front of the residence.

Within a short time, officers located the child in the water, two blocks north of the girl’s home. She was not breathing or responsive.

Nazer said the officers immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived on scene and took over lifesaving measures. The girl was transported to Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Cache County Victim Advocates were called to the scene to help the family and emergency personnel with the tragic event.

Nazer explained that the girl’s identity is not being released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
