LOGAN — Cache County received notice this week of the approval of a $2 million grant for early-stage planning and environmental analysis for what is called the Cache Parkway Western Arterial transportation project.
Cache County Executive David Zook broke the news at the end of KVNU’s For the People program on Wednesday.
“There have been a lot of leaders in our community who have been working on this project, and one of those leaders I want to especially thank right now is Congressman Blake Moore. He has come through for us and helped us to secure some money.
“We went to him and we said ‘we want to build, basically, another 10th West, another major road like that, maybe even better, hopefully even better.’ Ideally, it will be bigger and better and have trails, bike lanes, things like that. A true parkway west of 10th West,” Zook explained.
He said it would be anywhere from six to 10 blocks west of 1000 West.
“Another major roadway going north and south, to take traffic off of Main Street, off of 10th West,” Zook added. “We’ve called it the Cache Parkway, we’ve called it the Western Arterial, we’ve called it the Western Bypass. But Congressman Moore got us $2 million to start that process of planning for that road. This is a huge kickoff to that project.”
Zook said that traffic can make us forget how wonderful Cache Valley is.
He said, historically, in the valley, leaders have done a great job of planning and building transportation infrastructure, while at other times, Zook said, that leaders may not have anticipated coming needs.
Zook expressed that, “our kids and grandkids will be thankful for those who’ve been working to construct this critical transportation connection.”
