February 1, 1935 — October 29, 2022 (age 87)

Yvonne Barfus Handy passed away at her daughter’s home, on October 28, 2022. Yvonne was born February 1, 1935, in Preston, Idaho to Fredrick George and Virginia Hawkes Barfus. She attended schools in Preston graduating from Preston High School in 1953. She was a very accomplished singer and had many leads in the Preston High Operas. She won the Harley Cup in 1952. She met her husband Glade Lowe Handy in the Opera “The Red Mill” where they were both leads. He gave her a diamond for graduation and they were married on September 18, 1953, in the Logan Temple. Yvonne and Glade sang together throughout the years with many enjoying their musical talent.

Yvonne was an excellent seamstress, sewing Glade’s 3 piece suits and many clothes for herself and her children. She was very musically talented. She kept a tidy home and loved to cook and home can. She had a storage room full of jams, jellies, fruits, and vegetables. She worked as a teacher’s aide for 25 years, retiring from Logan School District in 1998. She was a very kind, loving neighbor and friend. She always had a listening ear. She enjoyed serving others and in her church callings. Yvonne and Glade served an LDS Mission in Portland Oregon in 1999 where Glade served as the fleet manager and Yvonne served as the mission secretary.

Yvonne is survived by her sister, Maxine Westmoreland, daughter-in-law, LaRae Handy, Belton, MO, daughter, Jill(Don)Wallentine, Mantua, UT, daughter, Robyn, son, Ken(Ivania)Handy, Perry, UT, 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Kathleen Griffiths, and Evelyn Greene, husband, Glade, son, Kim Handy and great-grandson Ashton Kim Handy.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 at 12:00 pm at the Logan East Stake Center, 1450 E. 1500 N., Logan, UT.

A viewing will be held that morning from 10-11:30 at the stake center.

Internment in the Franklin, ID cemetery.
