LOGAN — A 53-year-old homeless woman has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing several Cache Valley Transit District (CVTD) buses. Rebecca Kathleen Clarke was booked Wednesday into the Cache County Jail on suspicion of committing criminal mischief.

According to an arrest affidavit, on Nov. 28, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were informed about several bus seats that had been cut and destroyed. Altogether, 17 seats were vandalized, resulting in about $5,000 in damage.

Video from the buses showed a woman cutting the seats. The suspect was later identified as Clarke.

Deputies located Clarke and questioned her about the vandalism. She reportedly admitted to cutting the seats, the probable cause statement detailed.

Clarke has a lengthy criminal history throughout the state, including convictions for forgery, theft and other offences. Law enforcement suspect she is currently living out of her vehicle and unemployed.

According to jail records, Clarke was booked on suspicion of criminal mischief, a second-degree felony. She could face up to 10 years in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
